Invisalign© is a beneficial and successful orthodontic treatment that can give you the straight and healthy smile you are looking for. However, that is only the case if you follow treatment instructions. One of the instructions is to properly clean your aligner. If you don’t clean it, your teeth can be susceptible to major dental issues. To help you clean your aligner, Dr. Jenny Hawkins has some tips for you.
First, remove your aligner and then soak it under water. This will wash away the saliva that is on the appliance. Then, put it in a cup full of appliance cleaner, like denture cleaner or the official Invisalign cleaning crystals. Let the aligner soak for the recommended amount of time.
Before you put your aligner back in your mouth, make sure to deeply clean your smile. You can do this by brushing with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and by flossing with a product that is easy to use. Cleaning your teeth is important because if you don’t, bacteria will be wedged between your teeth and the aligner all day, which is exactly where the bacteria want to be. This can create dental issues.
Throughout the day, you can rinse your aligner with clear antibacterial soap. This is an inexpensive way to keep your appliance fresh, clean, and free from bacteria.
