Having bad breath can make life hard and ultimately embarrassing. It usually visits you at the most inconvenient times possible, like before a first kiss or during a private work presentation. Many people experience this issue, so you’re not alone.
Fortunately, bad breath doesn’t need to stick around. In fact, there are things you can do to eliminate your bad breath, which is known as halitosis, and freshen your breath on a regular basis. To help you know more, Dr. Jenny Hawkins and our dental team have some beneficial information for you.
First, keep up on oral hygiene. You can do so by brushing twice a day, flossing once a day, and rinsing your mouth daily. It’s also important to brush or clean your tongue at least once a day after you’ve cleaned your smile. Doing these things will help you wash away the odorous bacteria that cause bad breath. Also, it’s important to visit Dr. Jenny Hawkins every six months. If you do this, there is a high chance you’ll fight bad breath, especially the bad breath that specifically results from gingivitis.
Second, clean your dental appliances. If you wear dentures, retainers or mouthguards, make sure you clean them at least once a day. If you don’t, the bacteria and food particles can easily cause odorous breath.
Third, moisten your mouth. Chewing always helps produce saliva, which moistens your mouth. So, try to eat healthy foods that require a lot of chewing and chew sugar-free gum regularly.
Fourth, quit using tobacco products. Tobacco products, especially cigarettes, cause severe halitosis and alter your health. So, if you quit using these products, your breath and your health can be improved.
